A hands-on cooking masterclass at Kuro, Kent Street Sydney CBD

How the Sessions Work

Every session is taught by a working chef, bartender, sommelier or maker. You work through the technique yourself rather than watching it demonstrated, and there is always something to eat or drink at the end. Sessions suit small groups, teams, and people buying a present for someone who already owns enough things.

Sessions run for small groups, usually 8 to 20. Usually $150+ per person, depending on the session.

Sessions run on scheduled dates through the year, and any of them can be booked privately for a team, a celebration or a group of friends. Tell us what you are after and we will come back on dates and numbers.

The Sessions

Ceviche with Héctor Chunga

Héctor trained at Astrid y Gastón and Mayta in Lima and was Head Chef to the Peruvian Embassy in Tokyo. Ceviche sits at the centre of both. You cure the fish, build the tiger's milk, and eat what you have made.

Cocktail Making with Jude Zhu

Jude Zhu is Beverage Creative Lead at Kahii, next door at 364 Kent Street. World Class Australia top eight finalist, and Boothby Top 50 Drinks of the Year three years running. You build the drinks yourself rather than watching them built.

Food and Wine Pairing with Tom Subileau

Tom is Co-Head Chef and Sommelier, and he builds the food and the wine list at the same time, as one conversation. This session works through why particular pairings hold and others do not, tasting each against the dish it was chosen for. You leave able to do it yourself.

Blind Tasting with Tom Subileau

A guided blind tasting, run as a team activity. Tom pours, the room works out what is in the glass, and he explains what the clues were. Competitive without needing anyone to know anything beforehand.

Kintsugi with Kintsugi Australia

Kintsugi is the Japanese practice of repairing broken ceramics with gold, treating the repair as part of the object rather than something to hide. Kuro's floor is kintsugi, so the room is the argument. Akki and Hisae from Kintsugi Australia lead the session, working through the history and philosophy before you repair a piece yourself and finish the lines in gold. No experience needed, and you take your piece home.

For Teams

Sessions work as a team activity. Numbers are kept low so everyone gets their hands on something, which makes them better for a small team than a large one. Combine a session with lunch or dinner in the dining room afterwards, or take the venue for the day. Any of the sessions below can be run privately.

As a Gift

Gift cards can be purchased and redeemed towards any session. You can add a message when you buy one.

Levi

The Ordinary

The food was incredible! Tom was kind enough to show me the incredible gallery space upstairs! I will be in touch about other events in the future that would be ideal to host in this space.

Nana

Autodesk

Thank you so much for the Boss coffee event, you were so accommodating on the lead up and on the day which made the event so seamless. The client was so stoked with the outcome. The food was also top notch.
